SEO Quick Wins & Google Disables Cookies

20 SEO quick wins for your website and what Google disabling cookies means for your marketing

The AI-generated answers in Google’s Search Generative Experience (SGE) do not match any links from the top 10 Google organic search results 93.8% of the time.

That’s according to a new Authoritas analysis, which focused primarily on commercial keywords. Google SGE is expected to reduce organic traffic significantly to websites for many keywords because searchers will be able to get the answer directly in Google’s AI-generated answer. The one bright spot? Websites that can’t reach the top 10 of Google’s organic results might be able to appear as links within SGE.

Today marks the first of many upcoming moments of silence in Google’s years-long plan to kill cookies. As of this morning, the Chrome web browser disabled cookies for 1% of its users, about 30 million people. By the end of the year, cookies will be gone in Chrome forever—sort of.

I have been leveraging AI content with my Carrot website all of 2023. I have first page Google rankings as a result of it. So I know AI content works. But I am glad to see there are studies being done to see the impact on user opinions of AI content. Here are the results of the MIT study…

They had two conclusions:

  1. When people had no information about the source of the marketing or campaign copy, they preferred the results generated by AI.

  2. When people were told the source of the content, their estimation of work in which humans were involved went up — they expressed “human favoritism,” as the researchers put it. Their assessment of content created by AI, though, didn’t change, undermining the notion that people harbor a form of algorithmic aversion.

I’ve done something similar for my role at Carrot. If you like to nerd out on marketing data, forecasts, and AI this is a great blog post to read and follow along.

🛠️ Resources & Tools

I’ll admit it, I am a cognitive bias nerd. You might not find them as interesting as me, but consider that nearly every decision you make today, every piece of communication you consume and every thought that passes through your head will likely filter through a bias. So imagine you are able to leverage that power when putting yourself in a motivated lead’s perspective and the unlock that could have on your marketing and conversion rate.

Here is a bias to think about 🤔 đź‘‡ď¸Ź

5# Loss Aversion

We all tend to avoid losses rather than acquire equivalent gains. Losing something we put effort into acquiring is considered painful by our brains.

To leverage Loss Aversion, you can use:

  • Summary of key features and benefits: When users want to cancel their plan or stop their onboarding, having a pop-up reminding the product value can make them stop their action.

  • Reminders of what users accomplished with your product: Adding streaks, the number of hours played on a game, or the savings made remind users of the value they got by using your product.
